October MVs
I usually post a list of links for my favourite MVs each month. It makes it easier when it's the end of the year and I'm trying to narrow down my top 10 releases. The tweet is here but might as well start crossposting to dw too...
Seulgi - 28 Reasons
I actually think they could've leaned harder into this concept and this song, I WANTED it to go harder! But even so it's Seulgi, and it looks amazing, and she performs it so well, so I love it. The mini was really strong too.
Saay - Talk 2 Me Nice
This took me by surprise at the end of the month. I love the visuals of this and the noir conceit that casts Saay as both the femme fatale and the jaded protagonist.
Kingdom - 백야 (Long Live The King)
French royal court cosplay? Don't mind if I do. They always deliver on visuals though I'm pretty sure their budgets are limited. They really make the most of it.
Jiae - Love is Love
Lovely, smooth song and a simple MV. She's the former Wassup member who came out as bisexual and had to crowdfund to release her album. I've preordered the album and am looking forward to it.
T1 x Raiden, The Boyz - Last Man Standing
Had to include my boyz!!! I genuinely like the song. The visuals are a bit murky. Wish it was better lit. But I do like it a lot.
Kwon Eunbi - Underwater
She's gorgeous always. Her entire solo career has been so good for me.
Lee Chaeyeon - Hush Rush
FINALLY!!! I know she's not the last IZ*ONE to redebut but she's the member I knew best and I really felt like she had just dropped out of sight. The MV is so delightful, the cutest vampire.
Pink Fantasy - Get Out
Love my haunted goth girls, they always deliver.
Class:y - Tick Tick Boom
A fascinating meta statement on idol reality/survival shows, rather on point for a group itself formed through a very similar process.
Wei - Spray
Really fun song! The MV is fine.
Rie (Onlyoneof) - because
I love the whole world OnlyOneOf have built up with this series of gay love stories! This one is a break up song but I choose to believe they're gonna get back together.
Ten - Birthday
The lyrics are both horny and cheesy. But the visuals are sooo good... he's a star.

Tick Tick Boom...the video really worked for me! I loved the concept and execution and the parallels of the opening and the closing.

I hope you find something to enjoy! If I was going to pick just a couple I'd definitely recommend Saay and Kingdom as the most visually interesting. If you have time for more, Class:y's one was so meta. And The Boyz did not have to go so hard for a League of Legends song, but they did!

SMH at myself cuz I might be getting into them? I'll ping you if I do so you can point the way if you can)'s mvs.Overall, October wasn't an outstanding month for me musically speaking. I did liked the Saay and Jiae mvs and songs a lot. Will deffo keep an eye on them both.
OTOH, though, my biggest disappointment (for mv ONLY) was Seulgi's "28 Reasons". The teaser was a good mix of creepy and confusing, and so my expectations were really high. I found the actual!mv to be just okay and not delivering even half of what the teaser had promised. For comparison, I've watched Taeyeon's "INVU" a lot of times (even sat thru one of those 'video editor breaks down "INVU" mv' types of YouTube videos.) While, as of today, I've only watched Seulgi's mv two times.
Now "28 Reasons" is, as song ONLY, pretty solid from beginning to end. And I can say the same thing for the album as well. So, you know, there's that.
OK, I have to mention that I have 0 emotional or fannish investment toward IZ*ONE. So, my opinion is coming from someone who is meeting/discovering Lee Chaeyeon as a soloist for the first time. It's possible that this part of my reply will be controversial? I really don't know.
Unfortch, my first impression of Lee Chaeyeon hasn't gone well. :(
First, there was the whole thing abt the promos and merch being eerily similar to Key's "Gasoline". Like to the point that, at first, I thought he was putting out a repackaging of it. I know that Stone Entertainment posted a statement explaining the concept for "Hush Rush"'s merch, but the timing + near identical aesthetic was not cool. (Also, I know all of the promos, merch, etc are plans months in advance, so it's not as if Lee Chaeyeon herself said "I want it to look like Key's". It was just ODD.)
But then, I had an offline/real life record-scratch moment when I watched the mv for "Hush Rush". Because there's a part (that gets repeated) in the pre-chorus that's extremely close to a slowed down version of Charli XCX's "Famous". And that's when I closed the book on her.
So, the best I can do is wish her well in her solo career. :|

Saay has a long back catalogue, some better than others, but she's well worth checking out. I am looking forward to Jiae's album!
We'll have to agree to disagree on Chaeyeon lol.

RE the Boyz: I'm v. slowly making my way thru their mvs (so far my faves are Drink It and The Stealer.) Was it you who'd created a primer or am I misrembering? (if so, please link it? I'd love to have a sort of roadmap rather than get overwhelmed so early on.) FOR NOW, my plan is to check out their variety show content (I like seeing groups' dynamics and personalities. It's how a lot of girl groups have won me over. See also SHINee, TXT, and (eventually) SVT.)
OH, I had no idea that Saay has a lot of stuff to check out! Yays!
We'll have to agree to disagree on Chaeyeon lol.
Hahah, fair! 😉

I do not have TBZ primer but
I did post a list of canon suggestions on twitter - of those my top few variety suggestions would be:
Come On The Boyz New York
Come On Summer Vacation RPG
The Boyz Time Out

I've added "Tattoo" and "Reveal" to my To Watch queue, heheh.
And, yeah, I think I was thinking of your twitter thread as a primer. I'm deffo bookmarking
In an attempt to not overwhelm myself, I'm saving those variety shows for next month. ;)

Me yesterday morning to a friend: So there's this new group I'm sort of getting into. I've gotten recs for some of their content. But I don't think I'll watch either of the "Kingdom" shows or whatever.
Me to the SAME friend this morning after linking all the videos in this order: OK, so you need to watch the Reveal official mv, THEN the dance practice, followed by this regular music show performance, and FINALLY PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THEIR PERFORMANCE IN KINGDOM. (The Boyz are making me wear a lot of this look 🤡.)
P.S.: My friend is allowing herself to get gently dragged into my The Boyz fever cuz she's been campaigning hard for me to get into Seventeen. Even trades and all that, LOL.
I've also accepted that I'm watching Road to Kingdom, but I'm on-the-fence-leaning-towards-no abt Kingdom: Legendary Warno subject
Seventeen and TBZ are both great groups to get into and also huge groups lol so it's a good swap for you and your friend to have! Neither of you can say "there's too many members" BC BOTH HAVE SO MANY MEMBERS!
RTK is so good, but Kingdom is definitely a much more mixed watch. The episodes are all WAY too long. But some of the stages are amazing and the sports day episode is so good for fun idol interactions and friendships.
