The Show(4 April 2023, Seoul, Korea)
Line up: Billlie, CRAXY, HAWW, ICHILLIN', KINGDOM, TRENDZ, xikers, Nam Seung-min, Ahri, Yeahshine, Yeeun, CSR.
We bought tickets to see taping of SBS's The Show through Trazy a couple of months ahead of time. Thanks to Ellie and Karla for the helpful info about how to buy tickets!
The studio is located at Digital Media City, which is just a few stops from Hongdae (only 1 stop on the Airport Express). We were early, so we saw both Trendz and Craxy holding mini fanmeets outside the SBS building.
We thought Trendz looked short but kprofiles said a few members were 180+ cm? Hmm. We were skeptical. HOWEVER - during the final stage when all the groups stand together, they were way taller than other idols??!! I can no longer trust my own perceptions of height lol.
When it was about 4.45pm we went to join the Trazy queue outside the SBS Prism building. After much more waiting around while other groups (mostly fan groups I assume) entered first, we got to go inside.
So the set up was fascinating. There's a small fan section at the front, all standing, and those are the fans that appear on screen. Then a seated area behind the cameras etc where we were, which does not appear on screen. Absolutely no phones allowed, even for texting, and everyone was masked (we were given repeated warnings and yet two of the people in our tour group did not have any masks and had to be given some by staff).
We were seated on the left which was close to the MCs table today - our guide said we were lucky! So we got to see Ateez Yeosang, Tempest Hyeonseop and WayV Xiaojun up quite close. Yeosang talked to some fans in audience a lot and seemed very calm, as the most experienced MC. Xiaojun was cutely nervous and rehearsed a lot. Hyeonseop rehearsed a lot too and had a really good MC manner. Lots of Wayv fans and Wayv lightsticks (very few other lightsticks). The girl in front of me was completely obsessed with Yeosang and wanted his attention at all times lol.
Most of the songs were pre-recorded so some groups only did partial performances on stage, and Billlie didn't perform either of their stages as they were busy breaking down Yeeun's stage during their first song Enchanted Night and setting up the final stage with all the groups during their second one Eunoia.
The stages were good!! Particularly enjoyed Craxy, they had great energy. Xikers are very good rookies even if their songs need time to grow on me. Trendz are good and they ARE tall omg they were so much taller than for example CSR. Kingdom are so good - one of the girls near me screamed so much for Kingdom and was otherwise quiet lol. CSR cute and Ichillin good.
Funny comment: the British family behind us (two parents, a boy and a teen/early 20s girl who was presumably why they were there) were like "is this Korean top of the pops?"
I was sad Billlie didn't do live stages but then THEY WON OMG - their first win ever!!! Their encore stage was really good!!! What an excellent end to the evening.
If you're a multi and you're into the whole music show circus and seeing how the thing is made, this is definitely worth the price of admission.
