Oxford Art Factory is a tiny club where I spent many nights in my youth and it was pretty cool coming back here again and see a great live show with a rock band giving their all and having a blast. All-girl Korean rock band Rolling Quartz were excellent - they're a really tight live band, their vocalist is amazing, they're all beautiful and charismatic, styled for maximum dramatic effect with their gothy outfits and dyed hair - I had such a good time. They perform like they're in front of thousands and I think they would do brilliantly at a larger scale show too.

I thought coming into the show that this would be the usual kpop crowd, and there were some of those, but actually a lot of the crowd was like the usual rock dudes. I saw a vlog on youtube later from a middle-aged Melbourne rock guy and it does seem they've caught on in the rock scene which is cool.

I do think their weak spot is their setlist. There were at least 5 covers, including Dreamcatcher's Goodnight, Lady Gaga's Bad Romance, BTS/Blackpink's Mic Drop/Pink Venom, AC/DC's Highway to Hell, and My Chemical Romance's Helena. They did great interpretations of these songs and I really enjoyed them - but when you are playing such iconic songs and so many of them, it starts to make me feel like "okay well but what do you have to offer?"

I remember Placebo used to finish out their encores with Pixies' Where Is My Mind and I always thought that was a questionable choice too, because it just kind of reminded me that that song was better than anything Placebo had written - and I really like Placebo!

Anyway highly recommend seeing Rolling Quartz if they're in your area, they put on an excellent show.
